HISTORY TRAIL
RICHARD COEUR DE LION
For a trip back in time and a lesson in history follow the route of Richard the Lion Heart. Following the signs of Richard Coeur de Lion and travel to the heart of Limousin. The route is nearly 180 kilometers long taking in 23 historical sights open to the public.
A large number of ruins dating back to the 11th century and onwards some re-modelled through the obligations of war or changes in fashion, most bear witness to the constant conflicts inflicted by the Duke of England and the King of France
MUSEE NATIONAL ARDRIEN DUBOUCHE
Limoges, famed for it's porcelain dating back to the 18th century. Located in the heart of the worlds fine arts capital you will find the Musee National Ardrien Dubouche. Also well worth visiting is Casseaux Porcelian Kiln built in 1904.
ORADUR-SUR-GLAIN
A village where time has stood still. On June 10th 1944 the village in Nazi occupied France was destroyed by the German Waffe-SS company, President Charles de Gaulle ordered that the ruins remain a permanent memorial. The village stands exactly how it was left to this day.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES
VOIE VERTE
A cycling route that all the family can take part in regardless of age. You don't need a bike as you can hire bikes there. They have tricycles, electric bikes, quarto cycles and regular bikes. The route is approximately 12k long and is mainly a flat pathway with rest benches and picnic areas along the way. Following a disused train track the views of the surrounding countryside are stunning.
GO KARTING
Fancy yourself as the next Lewis Hamilton? Then the Karting Circuit des Renardieres, only a few kilometers away is a good days fun for all the family.
ESPACE HERMELINE
Wanting to swing in the trees? you can, you can even zip wire over the lake. Here you can find a large range of activities from, archery, tennis, mini golf, mini train rides, lake swimming, fishing and orienteering.
TERRA AVENTURA
Kids can't live without their smartphone? No problem, Terra Aventura is a treasure hunt which covers the whole Nouvelle Aquitaine region. Collecting characters using an App all while you soak up the sights.
HIKING & BIKING
With countless numbers of hiking and walking tracks right on your door step you'll be sure to find a suitable route for all abilities, even little legs and old legs can enjoy the flora and fauna of the countryside and take in the fresh air. The only problem is choosing which one to do.
If you want the thrill of mountain biking, we have some great routes, even some really muddy ones! The Templar Trail, classed a moderate route is a little over 18 kilometers long.
Plenty of road bike routes, too many to count, the world is your oyster...
A bike shop in Chalus is handy for any repairs or supplies.
WATER SPORTS
Discover the glorious Vienne Valley by kayak or canoe, suitable for children of 8 years and over Aiex Canoe Kayak club offers all year round canoeing and kayaking adventures, from September to June for paddle schools and leisure groups, and from May for canoe and kayak rentals.
Plan d'Eau des Ribieres at Espace Hermeline also offers paddle boarding and kayaking adventures.
If you want to go further afield Lac Saint Pardoux offers in addition to the water park and sandy beach sailing and water skiing, with plenty of picnic areas and children's parks its a full day out.
FISHING
Known as the Emerald of the fishing world this region boasts world class carp fishing. Some prize winning carp have been landed and weigh in excess of a whopping 70lb you can see why anglers are drawn back here time and time again. Regardless of age or level of expertise you will find different kinds of fishing, from small streams to massive lakes. Rod license and or permit are required to fish any watercourse.
